National Nurses United Chant]: “We want a Robin Hood Tax! We want a Robin Hood Tax! What do we want? Free education! When do we want it? Now!”

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders Tuesday introduced two Senate bills creating a small Wall Street “Robin Hood Tax” on financial transactions and creating free college education. Sanders says the American people overwhelming support these ideas. He said the American people support these ideas.

[U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders]: “Only in a Congress dominated by Wall Street and big money is this considered to be a radical idea.”

National Nurses United stood with Senator Sanders.

[Rose Ann DeMoro]: “A minimal tax on Wall Street on the obscene profits of Wall Street could fund so much that has to do with building our infrastructure, fighting for jobs, fighting for the economy.”

McDonald’s workers delivered 1.4 million petition signatures to the company’s annual shareholders meeting in Oak Brook, Illinois Thursday. The petitions supported $15 an hour and union rights. The workers rallied for the second day at the meeting, demanding better pay and union rights without employer retaliation. Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich was among many supporters of the worker demands that also included groups like Moveon.org, Credo Action and Daily Kos who helped gather petition signatures. Workers wearing McDonald’s uniforms delivered box loads of the petitions directly to shareholders. McDonald’s, meanwhile, publicly complained that its brand is being damaged by “union attacks”.

[Bob Peterson]: “The plan is very anti-democratic and it’s ultimate purpose is to privatize our public sector, our public schools.”

Milwaukee Teachers Education Association President Bob Peterson talking about a Republican plan to essentially dismantle Milwaukee Public schools. The plan would appoint a “commissioner” to bypass the elected school board and privatize five Milwaukee schools per year. It calls for requiring teachers to sign agreements not to join unions – which violates federal labor law – and does away with teacher certification. Peterson says it’s an insult to Milwaukee communities. Milwaukee is the most racially segregated city in the U.S.

Teachers trying to organize the Alliance Charter schools in Los Angeles say they’re running into unfair labor practices that are illegal under labor law.

The charges allege unlawful denial of access to campuses and email accounts, coercion by conducting an anti-union campaign, and interference by engaging in coercive and threatening conduct toward employees who support unionization.

Teacher Elana Goldbaum says shortly after top Alliance administrators said they would respect their employees’ right to choose a union, The Alliance responded in the following ways.

[Elana Goldbaum ]: “When organizers tried to access the campus they were denied access, emails were a week later blocked completely from alliance educators united, I was even scolded for handing out leaflets during break time.”
